What is the Average Cost for New Kitchen Cabinets in 2025

Kitchen Cabinets Cost Guide & Table of Contents

Average Cost of Kitchen Cabinets: $15,000 - $40,000

There are almost a million factors that can go into a budget price, which is why it's challenge to target an "average cost" but we did want to share a few examples with you on recent projects completed with final pricing for those jobs (listed below), as well as examples of what our clients typically spend. Most of our clients spend in the range of $15,000 - $40,000 for kitchen cabinets in 2025. This should help give you an idea or ballpark amount for your investment, depending on your kitchen size, line options, wood types, paints or stain, accessories and more. This pricing is specific to the U.S., and specific to the Middle TN, area, but we find it to be consistent in many states as semi-custom cabinetry is an ordered product from a manufacturer. The largest variations are often in labor (installation) costs. Use this as a starting point, but reach out and we can provide more accurate estimates for your project.

What Affects Kitchen Cabinet Pricing: Construction, Wood Species, Finishes, Labor

Assuming you're planning to use a cabinet made with quality construction (no particleboard or furniture board that won't hold up), the simplest kitchen is the most affordable kitchen. Think simple layout, in a stock cabinetry line, in a white shaker door style. That's your most affordable kitchen. As you think about more creative layouts (or you have a unique shape to your space, etc.) that moves you into a semi-custom or custom cabinetry option, so we can design for optimum space and storage in every square inch. It also opens about a million combinations of door styles, finishes, glazes and even custom designs. You can literally draw an example of cabinet you want with unique features and we can make it for you. Just know that the more custom, the more expensive that cabinet might be. Storage and organization features such as a roll-trays, cutlery, dividers, and wastebasket pull-outs can also increase price.  Additionally, more intricate door styles (think a reeded design, or fluted details) tend to affect the price as well. Wood species also plays a critical part in the pricing of cabinetry.

Trending styles in 2025 and How They Impact Cost: White Oak Surcharges

If you've spent any time on Pinterest, you've seen beautiful kitchen designs featuring rich walnut wood tones, modern monochrome white oak designs and similar trending styles. These are more rare and are currently highly sought-after wood species, so they can increase the price dramatically on your cabinetry, even up to a 40% upcharge vs. a more affordable option like maple or red oak. There are also variations of white oak, such as Rift and Quarter-Sawn. Fewer cuts available in the tree to achieve a certain look or wood-grain pattern means an increase in price.

How Much Do Kitchen Cabinets Cost in My Area? How Location Can Impact Kitchen Cabinet Costs

Often location can impact pricing most significantly through labor or installation costs. Other factors are related to supply and demand (some woods species are more than others, some of native to some regions, etc.). Additionally, proximity to a manufacturer can impact freight costs.

Cost-Saving Strategies to Buy Affordable Kitchen Cabinets

Being on a set budget doesn't mean a beautiful, high-quality kitchen is beyond reach. The most effective ways to reduce the cost of your kitchen cabinets without compromising on quality is focusing on simplicity of the layout. If you're willing to use a stock cabinetry line (set styles and sizes), you can often achieve your desired look with a little creativity on our part, and a little compromise on your part. It might mean stacked cabinetry vs. full height, or a slightly different color shade than what you may have originally had in mind. We see our clients make these compromises all the time to meet their budget, and they always love the end result. You really can have a budget-friendly kitchen without sacrificing style and function. We've seen it happen over and over again with our happy clients.

The Long-Term Value of Kitchen Cabinets: Return on Home Equity

An important consider when evaluating the cost of kitchen cabinets is whether or not you'll receive a return on your investment with the added value to your home.  JLC (Journal of Light Construction) states that in 2024, a midrange,  minor kitchen remodel averaged a 96% cost recouped in the sale of the home! Zillow's research showed that in 2024, out of sellers who made any improvements to their home, 38% made improvements to the kitchen.

Depending on your home's current worth or the equity you have, investing in the kitchen can provide a higher return than almost anything else when it comes to home improvements. Realtors will often tell you that kitchens and bathrooms sell a home, and so much of what makes those rooms beautiful and functional is the cabinetry.

Average Spending on Kitchen Renovations in the U.S.

No kitchen remodel is exactly the same, but we can help our clients understand the big picture for kitchen renovation costs. For example, many of our clients spend between the range of $15,000 - $40,000 on kitchen cabinets, and typically we see the cost of cabinets is about 50% of the remodel costs. So with that calculation, an average kitchen remodel cost may be somewhere between $30,000-$80,000 depending on repair work needed, whether walls are being removed, and product choices, such as flooring, tile, lighting and countertops. A major factor is also whether a homeowner plans to do a full-scale remodel or what we call a "pull-and-replace." Pull-and-Replace means everything is getting replaced and updated, but no walls, electrical, or plumbing is being moved. This can also mean the flooring is not being replaced, so the goal is to keep the cabinetry in the same footprint.

How Do Most Home Owners Pay or Finance Their Kitchen Remodel?

Our clients are required to pay in full upon ordering, as it's a very custom product. This means funding or financing should be secured before planning to order the cabinets. We've personally worked with Wilson Bank & Trust, Lightstream for home improvement loans, Synchrony Home, and First Bank on a home equity line of credit and had positive experiences with all of them. There are many lenders willing to approve a loan for home improvement projects, but you'll need to determine right fit for your and your project, and what terms make sense for your creditworthiness. We do not currently offer financing for cabinets, but recommend working with a trusted lender.
