CABINETRY SELECTION & PROCESS

Can I order a sample door?

We would be glad to order a sample door or chip for you. You can also view many of them in our showroom. Simply schedule an appointment at your convenience.

How do I schedule a visit to the showroom?

Schedule a Discovery call to get started. If you're already working with us, please reach out to your designer by emailing them or call us at (615) 288-7401 and we will be happy to find a time that works with your schedule.

What can I expect for my showroom visit?

If this will be your first time in our showroom, we will ask you to complete your rough measurements homework and bring it to the meeting. During our meeting, we will complete a budget analysis together. This is a tool that we use to select finishes, wood species, and product lines that fit into our Good-Better-Best model. Based on your choices during our meeting, you will know a very accurate cost for your project before we even begin designing.

We will take time to make you aware of our process and policies. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and discuss any concerns you have about your project.

Our goal during the showroom meeting is to build trust with each other so you feel confident in choosing Agile Cabinetry as your cabinetry and countertops partner.

At the conclusion of our meeting, we will discuss our retainer agreement. Our retainers allow us to devote individualized attention to our clients.

How long does it take to design and order cabinets?

The design timeline varies depending on the project's scope and the number of revisions. We don't rush the design phases because we want you to be completely satisfied with the finished product at the conclusion of installation.

Our design timeline is broken into 3 phases.

  1. Preliminary Design
  2. Revisions
  3. Measurement Confirmation and Contract Signing

The design timeline takes anywhere from 1 day for a small bathroom cabinet layout to 3 months for a full house of cabinets with multiple revisions and meetings.

How much does your design service cost, and are there any fees attached with the design or any commitments that I have to make?

Our discovery call and showroom visit are always complimentary.

Our design service is included in the cost of our cabinetry products. For that reason, you will never see a 'Design Fee' added to any of our proposals.

Fees also carry a bad connotation. We don't like them. They usually mean that they are in addition to the cost of a product. We do things a bit differently. We use retainers to allow us to devote individualized time to our clients. Our retainers are non-refundable. However, 100% of the retainer amount is applied to the purchase price of your cabinetry. Retainers are generally calculated based on the estimated cost of your project. We use a variable 5-10% amount for the retainer total.

Are your cabinets covered by a warranty?

The Agile Cabinetry warranty covers your cabinetry including the installation and labor to correct any warranty issues for a period of one (1) year from the date of delivery. Our warranty is valid only upon complete payment of all invoices.

Beyond our own one year coverage, our manufacturers offer limited warranties to the original purchaser of the cabinets.

Stock lines carry a five (5) year limited warranty.
Semi-custom lines carry a lifetime limited warranty.

What's the difference between stock cabinetry and semi-custom cabinetry?

Stock cabinetry generally is limited to a select number of finishes and door style combinations, without the ability to customize that combination. We pull stock from several manufacturers Nashville distribution centers. This results in a shorter lead time and lower cost. The quality of our stock lines is still much higher than in-stock cabinets at the big box store. For example, our stock lines are constructed of plywood, not particleboard. They also use soft-closing drawer slides and door hinges.

Semi-custom cabinetry provides you nearly every option that custom cabinet shops are capable of, but with a lower cost and typically a much more durable and consistent finish. The lead time can also be quicker than custom shops depending on your project size and custom features. With our semi-custom lines, we can create a diagram of a custom cabinet and they will engineer the cabinet and manufacture it for our clients.

What's the difference between custom cabinetry and semi-custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinetry sounds great! We all love the ability to customize every aspect of our home. Just as a custom home has custom details, custom cabinetry can be extremely convenient while designing a home. We find that it is usually not worth the cost. Custom cabinet shops have varying levels of capability and areas of expertise. They may or may not finish their own cabinetry, which leaves our clients scrambling to find a trustworthy and reliable third-party cabinet finisher. Most house painters are not capable of delivering a truly durable cabinet finish. After all, cabinets are furniture and they need an industrial grade finish due to their many 'touch points'.

What's the toughest cabinet type you offer?

Typically any of your cabinets made with Oak are the toughest, however, we use plywood boxes on all of our cabinetry construction, which are built to stand the test of time. We also only provide dove-tail drawers for durability and function.

What are the differences in construction/features between the cabinet lines?

We have a minimum standard set on all of our product lines, as we only agree to sell a superior product. Some features are unique and only available in our semi-custom line.

Do you sell just doors or drawer fronts or just cabinet boxes without doors or drawers?

We do occasionally complete a project for a client who only wants to replace drawers and doors. However, when it comes to the cost of a cabinet, a large percentage of that is due to the door. We can work with you to evaluate if it's worth the cost-savings to replace doors and drawers vs. the entire cabinet. Newer cabinets are built well, and have speciality features you may not have in your older cabinets. We encourage to consider if you need to update the aesthetics and function of the kitchen to determine the step for you.

Do the doors and drawers come with soft close?

Yes. All of our doors and drawers come in soft-close. There a few speciality cabinets that may not based on their unique function, but overall most are soft-close.

Do any of the cabinets come in other colors or finishes besides those listed on the site?

Yes. Our semi-custom lines (Karman and Wellborn) can be done in any Sherwin-Williams paint color for a small custom-color up-charge. We also have options for different glazes to get the perfect finish for your style.

How do I adjust the doors & drawers on my cabinetry?

We use high-quality hinges and door slides that make it easy to adjust each piece of your cabinetry. We will adjust all of your doors and drawers to be level and as expected during our final touches work at the end of your project.

What's the most affordable cabinet style you offer?

The most affordable cabinet is often the simplest design. White Shaker cabinets on paint-grade MDF or on Maple are often the most cost-effective choice. Our pricing is often better than retail stores (Lowes, Home Depot) and we often offer a superior product for that price. Things that can increase the price of cabinetry job quickly include the number of cabinets, and speciality features (range hoods, detailed panels for an island, etc.)

Why do you avoid providing any cabinetry with particleboard?

We believe a cabinet should stand the test of time. We don't offer products we wouldn't put in our own homes, and particleboard just doesn't have the durability needed for a heavy-use space like the kitchen.

Do you sell cabinet accessories like drawer dividers or roll-out trays?

We do provide a large selection of cabinet accessories for efficient storage and organization in your cabinetry. Some cabinets are customizable and come with these special features, some can be retro-fitted if you plan to add accessories to existing cabinetry.

Do you provide cabinet hardware?

We do provide cabinet hardware from multiple brands, including Top Knobs and Jeffrey Alexander. Our hardware comes in a wide range of finishes, including brushed nickel, champaign bronze, matte black and more. We offer cabinet knobs, pulls, appliance pulls and more.

Do you install countertops?

We do not install our own countertops, but have a partnership with a local stone company. They have a wide selection and we can help coordinate a visit to the stone yard to view options. We do prefer you work with our stone manufacturer, as it can simply installation coordination and we can trust their products and services.

Do you offer any backsplash tile or flooring?

We do not stock or carry tile selection at this time, but can make recommendations with one of our trade partners in the area.

How do I know my selected styles will work well with my flooring and other selections?

We encourage you to bring in samples to the showroom when possible. If you're doing a full remodel and can bring paint chips, flooring samples, tile, etc. it can help you finalize your cabinetry decision. Otherwise you can take a sample door or chip with you and return it later. Our designers can recommend selections that pair well together and fit your style and preferences.

CABINETRY PURCHASING & LOGISTICS

What's the average cost for a kitchen remodel?

Unfortunately, that is a very difficult question to answer. The cost of a kitchen remodel varies greatly due to the multiple levels of finishes. Generally, if we're doing something called 'pull and replace', you should budget between $60-90k for a medium sized kitchen. Pull and replace means that all finishes are removed and replaced. These items are typically replaced in this situation:

  • Cabinets
  • Countertops
  • Backsplash
  • Appliances
  • Faucets
  • Sinks
  • Light Fixtures

Items that are not typically replaced in this situation include the following:

  • Flooring
  • Drywall
  • Windows/Doors
  • Crown moulding
  • Walls
  • Electrical outlets/switches

Of course, there are always ways to reduce the cost. Typically, your minimum replacement should include cabinets, countertops, and backsplash.

Do you offer financing?

We do not offer financing, but recommend working with your local bank representative on securing a home equity line of credit or exploring other financing options. We understand this is an investment in your home, but we're confident a beautiful kitchen will always be a worthy investment that improves the value of your home and makes your space enjoyable for years to come.

Do I have to pay 100% upfront?

Yes. Because of the custom nature of cabinetry designed for your kitchen, cabinetry cannot be return or reused and 100% of the purchase price is invoiced immediately upon ordering. We follow a specific process to ensure all designs are reviewed, approved and agreements are signed so you feel confident and knowledgeable about your purchase.

What exactly happens after ordering?

Once cabinets are ordered, you'll be updated on the status while your cabinets are being made. We'll coordinate the right delivery dates and installation dates as soon as possible.

Will you remove the old cabinetry from home?

We do limited remodel work, but we can demo the existing cabinets in some circumstances.

How can I prepare for my kitchen remodel?

We can demo your space in certain projects, but typically we bring cabinets into a clear space. We will work with you to coordinate timing for other trades that may be in your home to complete work. We need a clear entry to your home, with plenty of space to bring in the cabinets and let them acclimate for a day or two. You'll want all of your belonged stowed away to avoid dust.

How long does it take from the time I order cabinets until they are delivered?

Delivery depends on the type of cabinetry chosen. Stock lines typically take 2-4 weeks, while semi-custom options can be 4-8 weeks. We will help you plan the right timing so you know what to expect and are prepared for delivery.

What can I expect on delivery day?

Our cabinets are delivered assembled and in large protective cardboard boxes and crates. We will coordinate the best delivery time for you so you can plan ahead. The cabinetry is delivered in protective packaging on a box truck and will be placed in your home or garage. We plan for install immediately after delivery (next business day in most cases) to prevent damages or any inconveniences for you. Cabinet boxes are large and take up a lot of space, so it's important to have room cleared out to store them temporarily inside.

In almost every case, Adam Jackson will be personally onsite to supervise the delivery of your cabinets.

Do I need to be home when the cabinets are delivered?

We would love for you to be present during the delivery! Most of our homeowners find it very exciting when we unbox the first cabinet. We will discuss our delivery and installation process in depth with you, but one thing you need to know is that cabinets take up a much larger footprint before they're installed. So we will need the main space cleared, as well as a large walkway from the entrance of the home. The adjacent room should also be clear of any furniture and personal belongings so we have room to unbox and install.

Before delivery, we will install flooring and furniture protection.

Our promise: we will treat your property like it is our own.

Can my contractor install the cabinets?

We only warrant and guarantee cabinets installed by our crew - we stand by our product and installation and quality is our top priority. We do have some builder relationships who are experienced and install our cabinetry, but we install our cabinetry for most homeowners to ensure satisfaction with the end result.

Can cabinetry be returned?

Due to the custom nature of cabinetry, our products cannot be returned. We will work with you throughout the project to ensure the product meets your expectations with minimal and accepted variances.

Do you offer special pricing for builders/contractors?

Typically we offer standard pricing at a fair price point, but occasionally we set specific price points for whole house packages.

What is your price-match policy?

We do not currently have a set price-match policy in place, but can typically provide a product in desired price range when trying to match existing bids and budgets.

Can I take my own measurements?

Before the first showroom visit, we will ask you to take rough measurements of your space. In order to do this, we will send you a template that you can print off. We have a step by step guide that helps you take these rough measurements. After a retainer is signed, we will visit your home or job site and collect accurate measurements using a laser. This allows us to ensure a custom fit of the cabinetry and other products within your space.

Upon signing the final proposal and contract, we will return once again to your home or job site and confirm every measurement for your order. We do this as a final check.

How do I clean and maintain my cabinets?

The durable finishes on our cabinetry make them easy to clean with a slightly damp cloth. We do NOT recommend harsh chemicals as this can impact the finish over time.

When should I hire a General Contractor (GC) for my project?

We recommend hiring a General Contractor when major remodel work is required. The following tasks are best handled by a GC:

  • Removing or building walls
  • Replacing drywall
  • Major relocation of plumbing (more than 1-2 feet)
  • Adding or relocating electrical fixtures
  • Full flooring replacements
  • New windows or doors

We have a short list of licensed GCs in the Middle Tennessee area that we trust in our own homes. We're happy to make a referral for our clients.
